Subject: acupuncture and low blood pressure
All my life, as long as I can remember, I had very low blood pressure,
never more than 90/60. As a grade school kid, whenever I had to stand
in assembly, I almost always would faint. At about the age of 43-44, I
met an acupuncturist from Mexico. He had been trained in Japan, and
than had worked under a Japanese acupuncturist in Mexico City for
another 15 years. She was also a Zen priest, and he was a student of
hers in Zen as well.
He was staying with me in Istanbul while he was there for some other
studies, and he was a guest in my house for several months. We had
also travelled through quite a bit of Turkey visiting various saints
tombs and holy places, along with my adopted son. He became like an
uncle to my son or older brother.
I have numerous other medical problems, so he had been giving me a
long term series of treatments. He also taught my son how to take
bllod pressure and do some kinds of therapeutic massage.
One day he informed me that my blood pressure was too low, a fact thta
I had long been well aware of. My pulse in those days was usually
about 60 and whenever I went to the doctors, which was frequent, my
blood pressure was 80-90/50-60, as it had been as long as I could
remember.
He took my blood pressure, and then he placed in the needles. Then he
took my blood pressure again, and then turned the needles. He did this
several times until he had adjusted my blood presssure to 110/60,
where it remains today, ten years later.
If I had not known my own blood pressure so well, I would believe that
I must have been mistaken, but having been in so many hospitals over
so many years, the records are quite consistent, except that when ill,
my blood pressure would go down even further. (Incidently, one of my
younger brothers' pulse is usually 45.)
